WL//WH Track Of The Day: TALKING FLOWERS “Nothing To Say”

Track Of The Day  TALKING FLOWERS

Talking Flowers is the ’60s-inspired, synth-soaked Psychedelic Pop project of Malmö-based artist Astrid Brandin, rife with arcane cinematic atmospheres and swirling ethereal wistful melodies, where restlessness and allure blur in a surreal dimension.

Pulling from a diverse pool of influences such as 60s-style psychedelia, lush baroque pop,  ’70/80s TV/Movie eerie, noirish soundtrack ambience a la Badalamenti/Cruise’s Twin Peaks and Broadcast/Stereolab’s retrofuturistic bents, after two seductive singles in 2021 and 2023, the singer, musician and composer, hailing from the far South of Sweden, has announced the release of her debut studio album, “Fabrications”, due out on November 8th, 2024 via Rama Lama Records.

The first excerpt, “Nothing to Say”, is about when a person finds themself with “Nothing to Say” because nothing seems to be going right and everything is dull, grey and raining.

Trippy plaintive spoken words, layered with obsessively swooning backups and spooky synth flares, sway through Bossa nova-tinged, crisp hypnotic percussive grooves, warm sinuous bass pulses, insistently stabbed by tinkly stacks of resonant desolate keys, and reedy glowing flows, to wrap the listener in a haunting yet mesmerizing stirring melancholia.
