WL//WH Track Of The Day: STARFLYER 59 “I’m Disappointed”

Track Of The Day  STARFLYER 59

The distinctive nostalgic melodic songwriting of Jason Martin has combined his love for British shoegaze, Beatlesque pop, and dreamy space rock since 1993, even if with heavier hard rock instances, especially in the remarkable 1994-95 one-two albums, “Silver” and “Gold.”

Following the acclaimed latest 17th full-length, “Lust for Gold,” in 2024 and its sleepy lullaby version of “Dejame Dormir,” the Southern California rock auteur dabbles this time, as never before, with invigorating rock and roll energy, in boisterous, high-octane proto-punk guitar grit.

Starflyer 59‘s new single and title track of an upcoming EP, “I’m Disappointed,” via Velvet Blue Music, talks about how, after a man accepts a big offer to see his name in lights, he becomes disappointed when reality sinks in, and he finds out no one cares.

From its let go, the track plummets into a rambunctious barrage of distorted grungy guitar racket fueled by loose, rolling drums and darting, humming bass lines, to resound with a searing, wailing tone over distressed reverb-drenched baritones urgently dropping angst and gloom imbued by a fearfully disillusioned sense of detachment and confusion toward the reality of the ‘star-making’ industry.

Starflyer 69‘s forthcoming“I’m Disappointed” EP will be released via Velvet Blue Music on July 31, 2026. On pre-order here.
