WL//WH Track Of The Day : STAR “Flesh Eating Mothers”

Track Of The Day

The long prolific and experimental DIY musical path of guitarist and composer Scott Cortez began around 1993 with his solo bedroom noise-pop moniker Astrobites, and through the ethereal pop duo Lovesliescrushing and many others projects and productions, littered with atmospheric and noise-laden dream pop / shoegaze gems.

Born in 2005 out of the meeting of different yet complementary music sensibilities, hanging around the Chicago underground rock scene, with singer songwriter Shannon Roberts (vocals, lyrics), and Theodore Beck (beats, bass, guitars, mixing), STAR debuted two years later with the album “Devastator” via their own imprint Lovely Rebel Records and re-released in 2016 by Saint Marie Records.

The new surprise parodic and jesting single “Flesh Eating Mothers”, about pity, narcissism, and literally ‘creating a monster’, has just been dropped on Halloween day together with the announcement of the forthcoming sophomore LP titled “Violence Against STAR”.

Crushing, highly melodic, yet dense and instinctive, “Flesh Eating Mothers” exudes the band’s powerful swirling intensity and sheer wall of sound approach in an intoxicating combination of blistering feedback-drenched fuzz guitar distortions, relentless drums beats and sweet, mischievous, whimsical flirtations stirred in giving it a perfect prankish punch of parody.

To be honest I’m not aware of why we had to wait for over a decade, but it’s still a staggeringly energic, buoyant and infectious slab of noise pop beauty, that is sure to start your All Hallow’s Eve on a ghoulish note!

Keep up with STAR :
