Sopoorific is the music project of multi-disciplinary artist Alison Flora based in Toulouse, South of France , who explores ghostly mists and supernatural darkness toeing the line between dense and minimal ambient drone with a black cosmic whiff, inspired by the industrial-esoterism of renowned acts such as Coil, Current 93, Nurse With Wound, and both melancholic and creepy, wintry Medieval/Fantasy Dungeon Synth suggestions, simultaneously evoking ruined castles and cosmic horrors seemingly pulled straight out of the pages of H. P. Lovecraft.
Sooporific, known also as one half of Sun Dogs and with a collaborative EP with Blind Delon, in 2019, under her belt, is going to drop her third cassette album, “Ephemeral and Unseen”, as usual via the independent Parisian label Grande Rousse Disques, the follow-up to “Auras Around Humans” in 2021 and “Waterfall Cave” the year later.
Mysterious arcane auras surround bewitching cold and austere, at times whispered, spoken word vocals darkly grounded and punctuated by obsessive ritual percussive echoes, uncanny tinny rustles, ominously swelling hypnotic bass lines, and encircling haunting synth layers, invoking power and knowledge from absorption of an occult ritual.
Sooporific‘s third album, “Ephemeral and Unseen”, is due out, Cassette & Digital, on January 19, 2024, via Grande Rousse Disques.
