The guitar-driven sound of Chicago based 4-piece Sleepwalk, made up of Ryan Davis (guitar, vox), Mike Kennedy (guitar), Dave Jedlecki (bass) and Steve Burton (drums), oscillates between two halves permeating the outer reaches of shoegaze and dream pop coated with raw grungey riffs and post-punk suggestions, veering from melancholy to raw, dreamy to sinister, hazy to stark.
After the debut album “Shimmer” in 2016 the band is going to release their “heavier and grungier” sophomore album “Splatter” due out November 28, 2018 via the excellent independent Mexican label Emma’s House Records.
The first preview, already premiered in a live video, “Bumblebee”, imbued with themes of loneliness fear, and longing, is introduced by twinkling clear guitar notes, backed by kick drums and rolling cymbals, coalesce into soaring and wistful chiming leads amid gauzy washes of reverb and distortion, underpinned by a fluid, at time stop-and-go, rhythm section. Plaintively detached vocals weighted with despair and abandon, drift, rife with seemingly endless yearning, noisy and hazy guitar melodies, over thoughts of guilt, love, and anger.
