Started in 2014 as an experimental side project of the renowned 2009-born Shoegaze/Post-punk act Schonwald, the imaginative Italian duo of Luca Bandini (voice, synth, drum machines) and Alessandra Gismondi (synth, vocals) cultivated, through their Shad Shadows moniker, deliver a distinctly refined, cinematic-tinged and gloom-laden take on dark and cold dance electronica, amid industrial minimalism, EBM fascinations and sensual atmospheric Wave mists, seamlessly infused with dystopian and retro-futuristic energy.
Over five studio albums, Shad Shadows has stretched, merged, and revitalised the most obscure and fascinating fringes of the 80s/90s bygone past.
Finally, after around one and a half years since the latest, “Assault,” the pair have announced the forthcoming new full-length LP, titled “Wunderkammer Desire,” due out on May 15, 2025:
“A dive into an imaginary place where everything is possible and impossible, blurring the lines between art, science and wonders. The mystical dialogue of the people living inside who weave together as electrifying rituals, haunting vocals, the romance of Goth Music, the high-voltage pulsing of Dark Disco and the cinematic echoes of Synth Wave.”

The first excerpt, “Divination,” is a song about a man who presents himself as a mysterious deity to a woman who longs to dwell in sorrow, to lure her in and poison her future.
A lush, mesmerizing Moroder-esque noir disco burner, fueled by ceaselessly slapping drum beats and heavy, droning percolating bass loops, combining with piercing glowing synth strains, to build tension and eeriness around a male/female vocal interplay, alternating secret shadowy allure with high, desperate yearning, to dangerously dive into a tantalizing dark romance.
Shad Shadows‘ forthcoming new album, “Wunderkammer Desire,” is slated for release on May 15, 2025.
