Six months after their acclaimed 10-track debut album, “Expressions of Interest”, via UK label Upset the Rhythm, Screensaver, the Australian Synth-driven Post-Punk 4-piece based in Melbourne, made of Krystal Maynard on vocals/synth, Christopher Stephenson on guitar/synth, Giles Fielke on bass/synth and James Beck on drums, return with a new double A-side 7-inch single “Clean Current/Repeats”.
The first track disclosed, “Clean Current”, departs from the darker and gloomier recesses of the band’s late 70s/early 80s influenced sound, injected by a dynamic and abrasive blaze of punk urgency combining the Bay Area’s alienated Synth-Punk of the Units with the spiky unnerving guitar drones of The Gordons and The Snapper fueled with kraut rhythmic reiterations and delay vocal moodiness, albeit once again deeply invigorated with a heartfelt degree of distinctive personality.
“Clean Current” buzzes with the hypnotic kinetic energy of metronomic drum beats, along with a densely phat, punchy bassline, encircled by sharp-edged eerie synth swathes to seemingly rocket across an eerie wide-open space, tormented by jittery, wiry guitar strains, to strike with adrenaline-charged intensity a mesmeric state of mechanical trance, enhanced by urgent restless submerged shouts and breathes of high anxiety through overwhelming surges of distrustful dread.
Screensaver’s forthcoming Double A-side Single “Clean Current/Repeats” is slated for release on extremely limited edition 7″ fluorescent yellow vinyl & Digital on April 8, 2022. On pre-order from the band’s Bandcamp and from Upset the Rhythm (UK/EU)
