WL//WH Track Of The Day: SCORIE “The Leash & The Fury”

Track Of The Day  SCORIE

After more than a year of meticulous distillation and ageing, the debut 6-track EP from the Parisian four piece Scorie, made of Germain Izydorczyk (Vocals-Guitars), Antoine Barbier (Bass – Brace! Brace!), Achille Germain (Drums) and Arthur Dantcikian (Guitar – Mardros), has finally reached the right degree of maturation, ready for an unrestrained use sometime around the end of 2025, forecasted by the intoxicating and tantalizing first single, “The Leash & The Fury”, via fellow Paris-based label GÉOGRAPHIE.

Endowed with spunk and whimsical flair, the band deftly balances and injects the irreverent, provocative and sensual nature of their music into a feverish and articulated changing concoction of Post-punk, Art-Rock, Glam, Psychedelia, and Rock’n’Roll vigour, showing off vibrant nuances of tonal pliability steeped in the uncontainable lush and erratic instrumentation.

A tortured sexual monologue, both an ode to submission and a biting satire of the profound disgust for voluntary servitude. Sitting halfway between the raw energy and cynicism of today’s post-punk scene and the unapologetic intensity of Nick Cave or The Doors, this debut single showcases a bold identity.

Coy feminine and barking sounds set the atmospheric backdrop for a throbbing groovy bed of snaking, warmly round bass lines and loose, shifting drum beats, innervated by the sparkling rambling of slinking, funky, and scratchy guitar lilts and swells, layered with ascending piano shimmers, and sultry, eerie organ chords, swirling around flirty, slightly husky, swaggering vocals, desperately pleading into a full-throated scream to be treated like a dog.
