Track Of The Day SCENE NOIR
Veteran Montreal, Quebec outfit Scene Noir, made of founding members Andrew Velvet (Vocals, Synths, Guitars) and David Brennan (Guitar), along with Aislinn Vaudry (Vocals, Synths) and Kevin Hills (Bass), have just dropped the “Masquerade” EP via fellow independent label Velouria Recordz, featuring a couple of unreleased demos from the 2023 “Violent Summer” recording sessions, which the band decided to take into full production, a tasty appetiser of more to come.
Through a refined blend of atmospheric guitar riffs, lush synthesisers, and captivating vocal interplay, the band captures the most immersive and cinematic romantic colourings of the 80s Wave and Post-punk with an instinctive penchant for warm, intoxicating, melancholic melodies.

Hinting at Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer” at the 2 minute mark, the dramatic and evocative “Masquerade / L’Infini,” compels steady hypnotic drum patterns, cut by sparse clattering claps, sad humming bass pulses, and ethereally vibrant guitars of gleaming somber brilliance, overlaid with poignant drifting synths, while soft devoted male vocals, layered with sensual featherlight female spoken words, to dance away into a cold spiral of boundless emptiness.
