WL//WH Track Of The Day: SALT LAKE ALLEY “I’ve Been Playing With Fire (Again)”

Track Of The Day   SALT LAKE ALLEY

Stockholm-based orthodox indie pop mainstays  Salt Lake Alley, established in 2018 by Gustav Tranback (Paper Hearts, Dismal Plight) and Mikael Carlsson (The Honeydrips, Dorotea), expand to a quartet with the addition of Fredrik Jalker (Boa Constrictor) and Thomas Aherne (The Garlands), teasing the third single lifted from the upcoming third studio album “Always Out of Time, due out on March 6th via Too Good To Be True (EU) and Shelflife Records (US).

Devoted to a refreshing and captivating take on the heydays of Creation and Postcard Records, by way of Sarah and C86 era, the foursome thrive with a mesmerically dense yet harmony-rich breezy jangle sound, fusing melancholic heartfelt melodies and uplifting energy.

Beautifully brisk and vibrant song, about how “Playing With Fire” causes a person to stop paying attention, get in trouble, and eventually lose themself,

rolls out shapeshifting guitars that weave restrained shimmery and crackling jangly textures, expansive buzzing stabbing riffs and resonant crisp edgy guitar melodies, floating angsty over the ceaseless pulsing of a snaking warm bassline along with urgent steady drums, to keep the momentum high, while anxious, regretful vocals, achingly fall into a hazy layer of chaotic distortion.

Salt Lake Alley‘s third full-length studio album, “Always Out of Time, will be released, CD/Vinyl 12″ & Digital, on March 6th via Too Good To Be True (EU) and Shelflife Records (US).
