Sidney‘s Burning Rose label did it again, another precious gem, after the amazing Modern Heaven one a couple of months ago, popped up yesterday on its Soundcloud page, and this time also on Bandcamp.
Melbourne based electronic producer Kate Durman under the Purient moniker is creating electronic ambient pop music.
Defined as a ‘lo-fi princess’ and compared to Grimes and Banks, “Lose” seems a more intricate, gloomy, and dark affair.
Introduced by hypnotic and foreboding bass, sparse beats and sweet, angelic vocals, a confused woman agonizes over her choices. She cannot understand why she keeps chosing others when she has so much to lose by doing so. The impending sense of sadness, concern and hopelessness is overcast by swelling, forlorn and synth chords, steeped in a desolated, bleak meditation that deeply entices and hypnotises.
