WL//WH Track Of The Day: PLEASURE VICTIM “Gemma”

WL//WH Track Of The Day   Pleasure Victim

After a pondering 2024, defined by the remastered single collection “Hot Singles (’20-23), US East Coast-based Dark Synth-Pop duo Pleasure Victim‘s new single, “Gemma,” trades, through an intricate balance of urgency and subtlety, organic and mechanical, bygone dancefloor-inducing Wax Trax! industrial-electro stomp with moody Factory Records atmospherics, laced with the band’s distinctive voluptuous flair.

“Gemma” ceaselessly pulses on lush intoxicating tremolo frequencies and whispery seduction, fueled by resonant lashing beats, sparse stumbling percussions, funky chromatic guitar riffs, a Pete Hook-esque poignant bottom-up bass line and hypnotic squealing synths, all coiled together, in flirty devotion, amidst suggestive angel and demon voice clips, to a dramatic male/female call and response of shadowy whispers, high-pitched female cries, and sensual passionate screams, to explore feelings of temptation, guilt, and fear.

An intriguing return that might have been more effective by a crisper definition of the drum programming, let’s hope for more to come…
