WL//WH Track Of The Day : PLEASURE CHEST “Incommunicado”

Track Of The Day Pleasure Chest

Last minute find, immediately stuck on repeat, here is the debut 2-track single “Denim Dragon / Incommunicado”, on limited clear 7″ vinyl, by new Sydney four-piece PLEASURE CHEST, featuring members of punk/noise bands White Dog and Zeahorse.

While “Denim Dragon” is a urgent and vigorous ‘take no prisoners’ noise post-punk number, is the latter that instantly seeped into my bones

Dark, powerful, hypnotic and dangerous, “Incommunicado” takes us on a breathtaking and mesmerizing ride, forged of peppy and growling bass lines swathed in austere and dramatic organ washes and powered by pounding motorik rhythms, building a brooding frantic sense of mental overload, as the fiercely deep vocals, spiked with emphatic outbursts of guitar noise, increase in intensity from unsettled ranting to yelling rage, brimming with anxiety, confusion and sadness, in a final overwhelm turmoil heightened by an excruciating guitar solo.

Unable to communicate a man relies on his senses to interpret a situation. Sudden emotions of apprehension and anger overcome him increasing in intensity. He realizes something is happening that is not right. Enraged, he waits “while everything’s on pause.”.
