WL//WH Track Of The Day : PILGRIMS OF YEARNING “Florence”

Track Of The Day

Pilgrims of Yearning is a ChileanColombianAmerican dark post-punk band based in Somerville, Massachusetts, originally comprised of Claudio Marcio (Guitar, Bass & Drums) and Juls Garat (Vocals & Lyrics) with the recent addition of Sean Woodbury on bass.

After the release of debut EP “Bestiarium” at the start of the year and a support slot with legendary experimental synth-punkers Chrome, the band has just dropped the new single “Florence”, further developing their refreshing and effective brand of classic dark post-punk both upbeat and gloomy flavoured by thoughtful lyrics.

Urgent and intense, equally driving and highly melodic, an hypnotic, steady throbbing bassline drives the song forward, backed by a powerful drumming and  interspersed with sparkly, ethereal guitar and sparse piano notes, blazing with flood of emotions. Breathy quick chanting mixed with sentimental howling laments keeps the vibe strong and viscerally profound, and gives way to an deep, breathtaking sense of longing and desire.

Playing on the twin-track approach city/woman’s name, “Florence” is about something, in this case idealistic love and pure art, that is of great significance in one’s life, an extra-ordinary experience that can be at times overwhelming, comforting, and utterly passionate.
