Double track of the day this time! We recently featured both the artists’ new videos, but the opportunity is too good to let it pass…a double A-Side single, “Cold Hearted / Techno Man”, from Greek duo Paradox Obscure, the former featuring German synth-pop artist Adam Usi on vocals, the latter a cover of 1991 cult EBM tinged dark-electro classic by German act And One.
Dealing with pain, loss, and alienation, “Cold Hearted” is imbued by the vibrant rhythms of throbbing deep bass, repetitive drum beats, sparse claps and LinnDrum-alike percussion sound effects, soon permeated by wistful, hypnotic synth arpeggios and shadowy echoing background voice, creating the underlie bed of melancholy and longing, fueled by swells of icy bleak synth, for plaintive Adam’s vocals brimming with hopeless desperation, “trapped in this cold hearted world”.
The cover of the parodic dark-electro cult classic “Techno Man”, about a dj unfazed by the Saturday night drunken debauchery surrounding him keeps playing his techno, kicking up the beat, emphasizing wonderful bouncy basslines and bedazzled by the charming male-female chorus making for a dark dancefloor filler.
“Cold Hearted” is part of the “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP), an incremental Compilation built over the year by Detonic Recordings, that is closing to reach its final chapter with the full vinyl release on November 27, 2018 on Pre-Order on Bandcamp .
