Dunedin/Melbourne experimental darkwave duo Ov Pain, made of Renee Barrance (Élan Vital) and Tim Player (Opposite Sex), have unveiled the first glimpse, titled “Silver Gate”, from the forthcoming 4th album “Reliquary of Dusk”, the second through Melbourne based independent label It Records.
The pair, check this interview from 2021, seems to evolve along the same veins of their latest multifaceted ambient, dark, minimal, cinematic, and glacial electronic core, enshrouded in ghostly mists of drawling and churning synth drifts, reflective somber ritualistic atmospheric textures, and reiterative groovy tri-hop-like hissing rhythmic patterns, harnessing the power and resonance of droning electronica, reminiscent of Coil or Pan Sonic, that unfolds with a sequence of subtle yet increasing variations in intensity and density for an imposing final build-up, seamlessly fueled by a magnetic dark vocal poetry.
The slow-burning confessional “Silver Gate” unfurls over the relentless and obsessive rarefied rattling echoes of hissing shuffling beats, punctuated by foreboding stern bass throbs, to conjure up a profound creeping sense of tension and tragedy, engulfed by a slow brooding solemn crescendo of chilling, droning and stifling synth swathes, majestically ending in anguishing shimmery organ-like symphonic swells, whilst looming over soft yet piercing celestial vocals, intoning a mesmerizing trance of doom into a haunting black pool of lies and hate.
Ov Pain‘s upcoming 4th album “Reliquary of Dusk”, is slated for release, in ltd. Vinyl 12″ & digital formats, on December 8, 2023 via It Records.
