WL//WH Track Of The Day: OUR WORLDS COLLIDE “all the light we shall never see”

Track Of The Day OUR WORLDS COLLIDE

Freshly affiliated with Northern England‘s 1991 recordings, the Birmingham, UK-based outfit Our Worlds Collide, formed in October 2023, conveys a Shoegaze/Post-rock sound, spanning seamlessly the dreamlike atmospheres of Slowdive and Explosions In The Sky, to the washes of distortion of My Bloody Valentine and loveliescrushing.

The first single for the label, “All the light we shall never see,” also featured in a concise 4-minute radio version, is a deft immersive fusion of hazy pensive desolation and seething droning energy without the rackety dynamic outbursts such as in bands like Mogwai or early Explosions In The Sky.

A song about how dark love causes melancholy and fear, thus overshadowing potential light, to draw a meditative, soul-ripping pathway in constant oscillation with stumbling and plodding solid drumming and dense humming bass throbs, that instigates a reflective and wraithlike ambience with languid and subdued tones rippled by squeaky guitars, crossed in the backdrop by faraway blinding, poignant string breezes, on which sway dreamy, heartfelt male vocals sadly crooning and speaking with desperate longing into a restrained distorted ebb and flow, crescendo and fall of emotional fuzzed-out tension, expanding until its convulsive and crashing yet ethereal crying outcome, to then sadly and lonely fade away.
