WL//WH Track Of The Day: OBSOLENIA “Avanzar”

Track Of The Day  OBSOLENIA

The Mexico City-based Minimal Synth solo project of young musician Iván Porto under the Obsolenia moniker, reemerges in 2022, after last year’s sophomore EP, “Muerte Análoga”, with the new single, “Advance”, via fellow independent label We Are One Records.

In the footsteps of internationally renowned Mexican acts such as Werner Karloff, Stockhaussen, Equinoxious and El Ojo y la Navaja, Obsolenia dishes up a mutant retro-futurist synthesized minimalism, rife with cold mists, stringent claustrophobia and post-industrial dusk, where the analogue instrumentation is the medium to express in the deepest way the anguish and isolation of living in a post-modern digital era, without however disdaining a strong dancefloor attitude.

“Advance” triggers a feverish and unnerving spiral of steady tight drum beats pounding along with an obsessively bouncy, buzzing bassline and swishing swirling frequencies, incessantly penetrated by eerie and chilly bright synth flutters, to build a stark, high-spirited climax of neurotic and claustrophobic vibes, punctuated by cold, dire and angsty vocals cloaked in helpless overwhelming distress.
