WL//WH Track Of The Day : NERVE QUAKES “Running”

Track Of The Day NERVE QUAKES

A bit late on this, but too good to be ignored, the new 2-track 7inch single by the Australian five-piece based out of Perth, Nerve Quakes released at the start of July via Perth’s Televised Suicide and London’s Imminent Destruction Records.

Last year excellent “A New State” debut album perfectly embodied their intoxicating brand of goth-tinged post-punk interspersed with new-wavish analogue synths, rooted in punk attitude and ethos, with a genuine Aussie twist, as their name, comes from a song by Stu Spasm’s 80’s noise-makers Lubricated Goat, suggests.

The intensely captivating, hook-laden “Running” is about a false sense of security that leads people to run away in terror of being killed for being different and not complying with God’s Law.

It’s propelled by a melody-carrying throbbing bass interlaced with sharpened and sparkling guitar lines backed by heavy drums and buzzing keyboard textures to shape an atmosphere loaded with frantic and intense dark energy and fueled by haunted, hardened vocals that shine through, expression of uncompromising strength and determination.
