WL//WH Track Of The Day: MUMBLE “Dim the Lights”

Track Of The Day Mumble

After a recent string of demos, makes its debut with the S/T 4-track EP, the freshly born San Diego, CA-based husband/wife project duo Mumble, made up of Michael (instruments, vocals, lyrics) and Krista Cuthbertson (vocals), with the idea, born out of a penchant on the 90s reverberated noisy shoegaze atmospherics and 80s goth-tinged post-punk gloom, to create, through deliberately coarse, lo-fi and minimalistic recordings, a scratchy, raw sound drenched in swirling beautiful noise and moody, ghostly and romantic noir-aesthetic, as the ecstatically somber vocals sit perfectly among the emotional seething turbulence beneath them.

Echoing unrefined hints of the narcotic haze of Slowdive and Swirlies, “Dim the Lights” uncoils mellifluous, harmonised dual vocals sit atop a restrained abrasive misty breeze of reverb-infused guitar fuzzy distortion and steady repetitive beats, combining soft broken dreamy female sighs with soft comforting male compliments, to form a breathless whisper of bittersweet intimacy, in sync with repetitive glossy synth palpitations and faraway wistful low bass melodies, amidst final tender recurring assertions “you’re everything to me.”
