Method Actress are a Brighton-based shoegaze/dreampop four-piece born out of the demise of gloomier post punk outfit Morning Smoke.
I was already impressed last June by their brilliant debut ‘Point Of View’, now they’re back with a new single ‘Mistress’, a song rich of intensity and imagination, airy, dreamy and melodic, as the best dreampop should be, the dazzling intertwining of the sparkling reverb-dreanched dual guitars wall of sound and echoing drums sets a perfect balance between melancholy and refined flair, but is the gourgeous vocals that rise, an already fantastic song, to a higher level.
Yesterday I was thinking about who the voice reminds me of, then my friend Fernando helped me ‘Mark Kozelek without a doubt’, ‘RED HOUSE PAINTERS meets SHOEGAZE’, curiously the iconic American singer/songwriter wrote a Red House Painters song titled ‘Mistress’, maybe it all makes sense after all…
However if you’re looking for ‘the perfect pop song’ you’re on the right path.
