Although with a couple of releases dating back to 2021-22, Mexico City Dream Pop/Shoegaze four piece Melts only this year seems to take things seriously with three singles in a row, the latest being “ZEE.”
The band constructs a reverb-laden, kaleidoscopic atmospheric blend of wistful introspection and searing, uplifting sprawls, with the addition of effect-heavy, expansive and melting space rock tones.
“ZEE” blurs dreams and reality, spacing out in a scorching, hazy, sweeping buildup of a relentless, subtly screeching, distorted guitar intensity, fueled by a rumbling undertow of lively drums and humming basslines, to engulf muffled, grateful vocals in a melancholic sheer sidereal vastness of blissful longing for a lost loved one.
