Even if lingering around me since 2016, Athens‘ electro-infused darkwave act Meat Injection has never been featured on these pages.
With the recent official announcement of the band’s debut album “System Anomaly”, slated to be released on June, 20th, via Brazilian imprint Wave Records, it’s time to put this right.
Masterminded by the machine and composition prowess of Dimitris Katsikadis, A.K.A. J.Fishbone, the band has absorbed, without obvious trauma, the transition on vocals and lyric duties between the original singer Plasticine K (now known as Night Haze) and the current Cleopatra Kaido.
The duo deftly blend seductive and angsty darkwave drama and staggeringly obscure synth electronics, peppered with dystopic lyrics, to conjure up threatening gloom and hectic dark dance grooves.
From the first 3 tracks unveiled, the only real unreleased one is “Chaotic Ride”, characterized by a dizzying sense of frenetic urgency, build on skipping bruising kicks and tight pounding beats along with whirring, and flickering bassline, while dramatic winding icy flows and alarming blistering synth, swirl obsessively around agitated, pained female vocals, to shout and cry in shattered anger and dismay defying hypocrisy, oppression, and inalienable human rights.
Take ‘a chaotic ride’ into Meat Injection’s imminent debut full-length LP, slated for release June 20, 2020 on Wave Records.
