WL//WH Track Of The Day: LINDA GUILALA “Agosto”

Track Of The Day Linda Guilala

Veteran Spanish indie-pop/shoegaze band Linda Guilala from Vigo, made up of former Juniper Moon, Iván (drums) and Eva (keyboards, vocals) with the addition of Mari (guitar), are like a fine wine, they age well, or even get better enriching their sound with new intriguing nuances.

Following the Stereolab-ish modern psych-pop ‘maravilla’ from this Spring’s limited red vinyl 7″ single “Estado Natural”, as part of the Sonic Cathedral Singles Club, here is the brand new yellow-vinyl 2-track 7″ titled “Agosto” via Berlin’s DIY label Dreams Never End Records and Elefant Records (digital).

Hints of Pet Shop Boys wrapped up in an 80s French synth-pop affair, “August” is a somber, moving electro-pop insight into the sometimes sour and bitter experiences of love, loss, and longing that define human nature.

The anniversary of a dark hidden tragedy leaves one woman ashamed, isolated, and breaking her sobriety as memories prove too much to handle.

A relentless glassy, bleak bathes of shimmering organ wisp and glide onward, underpinned by peppy, repetitive drumbeats and chugging, pulsing bassline while glistening and searing guitar slivers wail on top along with shards of mesmeric bright synth to deepen a hazily brooding, depressed mood encapsulated by nostalgic, deadpan vocals of achingly soothing tones soaked with uncertainty, apprehension, and fear.

Back on the spacey psych-pop paths is the keyboard-laden and stuttering rhythm-driven, delicious and mesmerizing b-side “Salga Bien”.

But that’s not all, the third and final 7″ vinyl single of the announced Linda Guilala‘s annual trilogy, will be released later this year on Californian label Test Pattern Records.

Catch the band on their SEPTEMBER EUROPEAN TOUR starting in a few days.
