Track Of The Day LILAC LAMENT
“A macabre tale as old as time of loss, longing, and earth shattering romance,” “Margot” is the first single, dropped at the start of the month, by the newcomer Chicago-based five-piece Lilac Lament.
The band serve up a 90s-inflected Gothic Rock sound of the highest prowess, rich in visceral intensity and feeling, built on ravishing textural guitar work, and enveloping evocative keyboards, to underline Moth Del‘s, former Nightsweat singer, expressive vocal delivery.
A relentless, sober hypnotic pace of punchy drums and gloomy bass lines drives a swirling plaintive keyboard drama along with the atmospheric embroidery from the guitar, dramatically illuminating the darkness, casting ringing sorrow, sad sparkling arpeggios and resonant heart-rending distorted leads around stirring emotional female vocals that brood, then strain to release fear before turning into falling pain-filled howls, haunted by the agonizing sentiments of loss, forsakenness and dread.
