Just released and “captured on the fly” is the captivating debut self-titled 6-track EP by yet another Mexican band called Lasitud from Villahermosa; the five-piece, three boys and two girls, alternating male and female vocals, brilliantly channel and blend hazy shoegaze distortions, lush dream-pop poppiness, and atmospheric post-rock.
“Permagel”, one of the most rhythmic and pop moments of a largely ethereal and atmospheric EP, starts with a brief hefty burst of shimmering guitars and tight drumming on which the exquisitely wistful double male/female voices chase each other, gently collide and float over rich layers of reverb into an explosion of intoxicating harmonies and infectious melodies bursting with deep emotional melancholic longing.
Fresh, intense, and poignant, an excellent debut.
