WL//WH Track Of The Day: KLINE COMA XERO “Phobias Prescription Drugs”

Track Of The Day  Kline Coma Xero

Since 2014, Kline Coma Xero, the music project of Californian musician Tony Williams has explored barren and spectral analog minimal wave/synth territories with a retro-futuristic edge.

After one of our last year’s favorite albums, “Running in the Dark” via the Objet Trouvé imprint, the Carmichael-based musician is back with the new single “Phobias Prescription Drugs,” channeling the droning hypnotism of Suicide’s synthetic rock ‘n’ roll and churning raw energy of Absolutely Body Control.

The unnerving and haunting track races on the jittery, repetitive pace of a hollow, loping drum programming, scratched by a buzzing swarm of juddering, mesmerizing synth loops and swirling shrieking frequencies while cold, restless spoken words, cloaked in an obsessive haze of distortion, explain how the mainstream worldview causes a person to have phobias and use pills.

Plodding and ominous the flip, pervaded by a transfixing and overarching sense of dread.
