WL//WH Track Of The Day : ILU “Graffiti Hen Ewrop”

Track Of The Day

Ilu is an elusive and exciting Welsh new band, from the impressive Libertino Records roster, with a soon to be released debut album recorded between the rural Wales and Tallinn, Estonia under the guidance of producer Tim Lewis aka ThighPaulSandra (Coil, Julian Cope, Spiritualized).

Debut single “Graffiti Hen Ewrop”, due to be dropped on August 3rd, is an astounding, vibrant and elegant blend of tripped out psychedelia, intense space rock, jagged post-punk and genuine British style of soundtrack, with solid electronic krautrock foundations, resulting in poignant and sublime soundscapes defined by instant appeal, pulsating rhythms and infectious melodic pop attitude.

The Welsh language lyrics, that “came in one go, driving around a snowy Tallinn on Christmas day, throwing grief and sadness (due to the recent death of her father) into the night that is falling around the city”, seems in apparent stark contrast with echoing, etheral and euphoric vocals that float over haunting and elaborate electronic flows, throbbing bass lines and repetitive beats, interspersed with eerie effects and punchy guitars. Through a catharctic meditation on grief and loss, the duo craft a captivating, dense and intriguing sound of aching beauty that still persists and regenerates even in the midst of dreadful pain.
