WL//WH Track Of The Day : HOLY FORREST “Whirl”

Track Of The Day

Certainly not the most prolific, the Sidney based, Australian shoegaze 5-piece Holy Forrest, but their sparse releases always show a band able of carving beautiful melodies out of whirlwind walls of noise. They’ve just dropped the ltd. 2-track blue 7inch vinyl single “Whirl / Cumulo” via Library Group Records.

“Whirl” is an enthralling blend of distortion and melody, building from hazy and melancholic, as hypnotic and glowing, reverb-drenched guitar arpeggios underpinned by groovy bass, pounding drums and angelic sweet vocals. that flow. The guitar layers gradually grow and burn of intensity, stop short and then explode in swelling walls of distortions drowning the listener in an array of blissfull emotions.
It will not break new grounds, but is an absorbing and utterly worthwhile listen.
