Brighton‘s Lunar Quiet was an highly talented 4-piece that came to my radar in 2016 with their debut ‘Endless Migraine’, an brilliant and addictive mix of post-punk tension and shoegaze noise.
Unfortunately the impressive songwriting partnership between vocalist/guitarist Tom Knights and guitarist Ben Thompson ended too soon, with the sudden and shocking death of the former just two weeks short of his 23rd birthday.
In his memory the following November was released the cassette single “Cold Spell”, complete with a 32-page art and photography zine, via the French indie label Hidden Bay Records.
I’m really glad to see the remaining members carried on under a new moniker, Happy Couple, the title of the last Lunar Quiet’s song, and started recording new material earlier this year. with the first preview unveiled few days ago via FatCat Records Demo.
‘Mass Policy’, the first song they wrote as a new band, is a compelling and immersive blend of noisy reverb-drenched guitar wall-of-sound and dazzling bitter-sweet female vocals, that sounds as much emotional and visceral as utterly timeless, just to get lost in it.
The first amazing and touching shoot of light risen from the ashes of sorrow and pain, hopefully the first of many to come.
Keep out with Happy Couple :
