Wl//WH Track of the Day : GRASSHOPPER “Grin”

Track Of The Day

Brighton, UK based ‘pounding post-punk and ethereal goth-wave-bollox’ took their first steps at extremely young age around 2012 (have a look at their early pictures and you’ll be amazed), two self-released EP’s soon followed and after few years of hiatus, the band returned last year with “Nothing Like Us / Scream” 7″ single.

Fresh from supporting slots with Brix & The Extricated and The Orielles, the four-piece, made up of Javi Fedrick (Guitar, Keyboard, Omnichord, Sampler and Vocals), Luis Fedrick – (Bass Guitar), Rachel Garrett (Drums), Morgan Jones – (Guitar), are going to drop the Cd/Digital 3-track EP “Stricken” due out November 30, 2018, opening track “Grin” is the first preview.

Taut and deep bass and clear guitar notes underscore the Freudian hypnotic croon of a man, under the effect of mind altering substance, exploring the rooms of his mind to perform a in-depth self psycho-analysis. Mournful and jangly guitar interspersed with jittery riffs combine over a tight and pulsing rhythm section to fuel the sense of tension and angst oozed by the beautifully urgent, at the same time angry and frustrated vocals, as strong and emotional as Chameleons’ Mark Burgess. An intriguing look at the inner workings of a haunted man’s soul doused in alcohol an altered state of mind

Dramatic and intense, as powerful as it is restrained striking the perfect balance between gloomily urgent and intense post-punk instrumentation, superbly haunting yet breathtaking voice and profound lyrics.
