WL//WH Track Of The Day: GARY ROBERT AND COMMUNITY “Black Panorama”

Track Of The Day  GARY ROBERT AND COMMUNITY

Gary Robert and Community, the veteran post-punk band from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with punk, goth, and death rock influences (Velvet Underground, Wipers, The Gun Club, and The Sister of Mercy come to mind), serves up another heart-rending nighttime journey through the dismal and visceral dark realms of an earnest and immutable rock n roll liturgy imbued with austere aching beauty, strewn with oneiric psychedelia.

Formed in 2008 by Gary Robert (vocals/ guitar) and Brandon Glenn (drums), joined in 2022 by Chris Talley (bass), the power trio drops the second single “Black Panorama”, taken from the upcoming fifth album, The Whispering”, due out on February 20th.

The emotional desolation that permeates the harrowing notes of “Black Panorama” gushes through abrasive, distorted guitar textures, torn by scratchy and ringing guitar bleeds, that simmer and pulse, along with steady hypnotic drum patterns and bleak bass lines, through a sinister shadowy landscape, mercilessly, rushing forward, like time that waits for no man, to surround nervously gloomy, and plaintive vocals, slowing down and dragging in the stabbing chorus, as if they are barely able to withstand against the relentless burdened charge of the instrumentation.
