Track Of The Day GAP YEAR
We were particularly struck and charmed by last year’s first single, “Where I Came From”, lifted from the forthcoming sophomore album due out later this year via local Blue Grey Pink label, from Perth, Western Australia based alternative indie pop five-piece Gap Year, built around two primary songwriters and also the main lead vocalists and guitarists, Daniel Harrison and Lee Napper, bassist and backing vocalist Maddy Blue, drummer Ben Santostefano and keyboardist Rhien Tan.
Just as impressive is the new release “In Light”, somehow a mix of The Go Betweens and Prefab Sprout pristine melodicism, a quaint love song urgently unravels through pulsating drums that dictate the sparkly pace alongside humming basslines, while the twinkling arpeggios of electric guitars, layered with fluid synth, intertwine seamlessly with each other, all graced by a clean chime allowing each note to shine with a bewitching, insistent waffling crystalline resonance, and radiate a magically nostalgic vibe around gentle heartfelt male vocals, nestled somewhere between elation and melancholy, covered with airy female halos, paying tribute to the unspoken magic found with a loved one on an empty dancefloor.
