Track Of The Day French Police
Chicago’s South Side coldwave outfit of Mexican roots, possibly lessened to the one-man-band of singer/songwriter Brian Flores? arguing by the last pictures, continues to perfect and personalize its beautifully atmospheric and somber take of the UK post-punk and new wave sound from the late 70s/early 80s, inspired, as well as the name, by the ringing sirens of the French ‘gendarmerie’, with a brand new 2-track-single “Feo / Craving You” through French independent label Icy Cold Records.
Increasingly comfortable in their own minimal yet intense songwriting and sonic identity, made of forlorn vocals infused by desolate warm swells of synth, slinky warbling bassline and irresistibly emotional chiming guitars with a thousand facets of sadness, the band’s constantly able to lure and entice.
While the achingly atmospheric and nostalgic “Feo” will be the subject of video at the end of this week, the more disturbing and moody, yet not less enveloping, “Craving You” deploys ominously gurgling bassline interweaved with a fluctuating mesh of glistening wistful guitar melodies, awash by dazzling grieved swathes of synths, that sparkle and whine obsessively wafting over airy haunted expansive vocals floating numb and weightless, to ignite suffocated passion and longing into an impenetrable haze of unremitting pain.
