WL//WH Track Of The Day FRENCH GIRLFRIENDS
Hailing from Kolkata, India, musician Subhas Mazumdar was part, around 2017–18, of a short-lived sun-soaked hazy Indie band, with early Washed Out-like glow-fi leanings, called Nilein, which we hosted in our early days.
As we have already pointed out, the Bengali producer is recently back on track with a mainly Electronic solo project, called French Girlfriends, still managing to be enticingly melodious and ethereal yet more challenging and unpredictable at the same time, wandering back and forth, in the three singles dropped so far, between Dreamy, Synthy and Gazey sonics, layered by ecstatic vocals.
The latest track, possibly the least immediate of the lot, envelopes the listener in a dizzy mesmerizing whirlwind, diving into a quick headlong rush, circling in ceaselessly lush and frenetic spirals of glittering, looping synths, fluttering over a tumultuous backdrop of cascading shuffling drum beats, while the “Damage is Done”, which pretty much says it all, through tiny fragile celestial vocals, releasing anxiety and angst into frantic shimmering sprinkles of chiming hope.
Keep up with French Girlfriends:
