WL//WH Track Of The Day: FREE DUST “Stones”

Track Of The Day  FREE DUST

Wanders over two seemingly opposing pathways that intersect, collide and somehow harmonize, the jittery and easygoing, as well as tense and velvety music from the newcomer Dutch jangle outfit Free Dust, made of Niek Leenders (of the ‘healing pop’ trio Nouveau Velo) on guitar and vocals, his brother Tim on bass, and his wife Inge on drums.

The Mariahout-based three-piece’s first single, “Stones”, from the forthcoming debut album “Dust Free”, due on May 10th on Subroutine Records, deals with being constantly pulled and pushed in opposite directions.

Bristling with the vibrancy, strain and tangled melodicism that skirt the 80s Dunedin sonics and The Feelies of “The Good Earth” with 60s glints of Love’s “A House Is Not A Motel”, the song is an intricate and meandering mix of swaying drums, snaky humming basslines, shimmery thrumming strums, and sharp tinkling and screeching leads, achingly resonate over wistful and restless vocals breaking into high airy howls to release a twisting frustrated tension.
