Formed in 2006 in the mystical town of São Thomé das Letras, Southeastern Brazil, longstanding band Escarlatina Obsessiva, anchored on the duo Karolina Escarlatina (vocals and bass) and Zaf (guitar, keyboards and drum machine), are back with a new single, “Salomè”, as anticipation of their forthcoming 8th full-length LP “Goth From Hell”.
After having explored along the years decades of goth rock, post-punk, and new wave sounds with heartfelt devotion and craft, the group return with a gripping and piercing slice of goth punk, amid effected wrenching guitars in classic death-rock style and a distinctive Rudimentary Peni-like bassline on which stands the neurotic Karolina‘s vocalizations.
Dialogue lyrics reconstruct the infamous conversation between Salomè and her mother to cast John the Baptist’s deadly fate.
A turbulent carpet drive of rambling tribal drum beats and deceptively mellow, yet subtly threatening and hallucinated bass pulses snakingly wobble and jitter through the darkness, irradiated with obsessive screeching circular riffs layering achingly, lancinating melodies wreathed in keening reverb over airy, high-strung vocals oozing urgent distressed desires into a penetrating frantic surge of furious passions.
