WL//WH Track Of The Day: EGGENBERG “Falling”

Track Of The Day  EGGENBERG

Arising this year from the lively Austrian alternative rock scene, Eggenberg, the Graz-based Post-Punk music project masterminded by guitarist and songwriter Lukas Steinegger, along with drummer Daniel Kindler, follows up last April’s debut EP “What A Time” with a new single “Falling”.

A heady push and pull of harmony and distortion, contemplation and abrasiveness, draws the best bits from ’80s Wave/Post-punk melancholy, infused with a shimmering dose of shoegaze textures.

Through an adroit use of stripped-down instrumentation, the band is crafting a dark and chilly atmospheric sound, alternating reflective, broody moods with restless, rough-edged ones which resonate with raw and haunting emotional intensity.

A song about loss, disconnection, and fear, “Falling” pulses unremittently on a vibrant foundation of steady, bouncy drum beats and sonorously round, moody post-punk basslines layered with sparkling, reverbed guitars and crystal-clear glimmers, sadly shivering around anxious, submerged vocals wistfully calling out to another, “I’m falling too.”

Although delving into familiar timeless sound paths, Eggenberg show a refined, distinctive identity paired with a captivating melodic flair that makes them absolutely captivating to listen to.
