The debut 5-track demo EP untitled “What We Lost” by two-piece gothic rock project Echoscope, fronted by multi-instrumentalist, lead vocalist and composer James Winter, based in Andover, South of England, has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the past week.
With undoubtedly hints from a familiar past, the band crafted a bunch of goth-shaded post-punk songs that stand amazingly on their own merit, most of the times energic, pulsating and haunting, other times mournful and introspective, always in subtle-yet-intriguing, intoxicating ways with James Winter‘s distinctive evocative haunting voice makes all the difference.
“Left Behind”, with “Crisis of Faith” my favourite of the lot, unleashes neat, repetitive, sharp beats and humming synth drones underpinned by vibrant, insanely rousing, melancholic and somber deep melodic bass line that throbs and sways relentlessly, while searing guitar melodies stirring up densely bright swirls of epic dramatic intensity embodied by prominently bold, defiant vocals, bursting with genuine pathos, unrestrained passion and an inescapable sense of fate.
Keep up with Echoscope:
