WL//WH Track Of The Day : DAY BEFORE US “Et Lux In Tenebris Lucet”

Track Of The Day

In this age of fast and superficial music comsumption, the project by French pianist and composer Philippe M. Blache, enhanced by the verses and the voice of Natalya Romashina, appears to go against the grain.

Day Before Us‘ dauntless ‘out of time’ electro-acoustic approach to neo-classical and dark ambient with ethereal and ritualistic undertones is such distinctive and challenging that requires a serious commitment and demands a further deepening for being fully appreciated.
Its imaginative sonic spectrum is rich and complex, its myriad of cultural references and connections are inventive and surprising.

Hard to highlight a single track from a piece of work that should be seamlessly heard in its entirety, but I pick “Et Lux In Tenebris Lucet”, a quote from the Gospel of John, with its industrial underbelly; a dense and evocative ambient composition of strong emotional impact and gloomy feel, counterpointed and spelt out by sinister ricocheting beats since the first notes, exudes an impending inescapable aura of menace and desolation, sharing equal parts beauty and darkness.
