Track Of The Day David J feat. Rose McGowan
After touring the world with Peter Murphy on the massively successful Ruby Rising 40 Years of Bauhaus Tour, and covering multiple countries across four continents, David J presents his brand new single “Auteur” featuring actress, activist, and writer Rose McGowan.
The song will be included in his next album “Missive To An Angel From The Halls Of Infamy And Allure”, which is set for release on Glass Records Modern in autumn. Here, the legendary musician regenerates an old song and with help from McGowan in the lead female vocals, Paul Wallfisch (Swans – piano, bass guitar, Wurlitzer, backing vocals ), Larry Mullins AKA Toby Dammit (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds – drums), Sean Eden (Luna – electric guitar ), Emily Jane White (backing vox), Heather Paauwe (violin, viola), and Eleanor Norton (cello), he offers a really great “new” song of high quality in all. It all sounds like that team was seemingly playing as a band for years, and don’t take for granted that acknowledged and skilled musicians may always interplay successfully.
The effect on the song is stunning and it is obvious that they really loved David J‘s vision as they masterfully embraced it with a glorious performance in the studio. “The original version of The Auteur was released as part of an EP in 2002, an old song that tells a much older story but one which in light of the whole #metoo movement now has an addendum,” says David J. adding “the most vocal proponent of that righteous call for respect and culpability, Rose McGowan, makes a fitting and emotional appearance on this brand new version’s reprise.” The strings were arranged by Paul Wallfisch who also engineered and mixed it, while the accompanying video was created by Scott Saw of Fuze Studios. “Auteur” is very serious work and I must say that judging from it, we may expect a brilliant record next autumn.
“The Auteur (Redux / The Starlet’s Cut)” will be released on June 14 across all digital platforms. A two-track version of the single, including the instrumental, is available exclusively via Glass Modern Records.
