WL//WH Track Of The Day : DARK WATER “Wasteland”

Track Of The Day   Dark Water

Dark Water is a three piece inspired by 80s darkwave and synthpop based in Birraranga, Melbourne. Lead by the vocals, with intriguing nods to Stevie Nicks and Kate Bush, of singer, synth player and guitarist Jack Siren, driven by dark bass lines of Dettie Sebastian and reverb drenched drums by V, the latter fresh from releasing his debut solo album titled “So Pure” via Dero Arcade.

The band have just dropped their amazing DIY debut, on cassette and digital, 5-track self/titled EP.

Harkens back to a dreamy version of Fleetwood Mac bewitched in the realm of darkwave, “Wasteland”, awash by mournful spacious synth swells merging with evocative wistful plaintive melodies, underpinned by a hypnotic rhythm section, is set to shatter everyone’s vulnerable heart with at once beautiful and sorrowful, moving and upsetting hazy, slow build quivered with emotional turmoil dominated by stirring Stevie Nicks-like vocals of rare drama and emotive power, drifting over in saddened, frustrated, angry croons laced with isolation and fear.

Life is a powerful, if wearing and struggling experience, that sometime goes also against those ‘bona fide’ ones we hold dear, often leaving us with lingering pain and loneliness.
