Formed in 2002 around the local art-punk Deleted Art label, veteran Swedish band Cut City, split between Goteborg and Malmö, delivers an impassioned, layered guitar-driven sound, bursting with noisy punk urgency combined with both ethereal and searing Post-punk moodiness.
Split between Goteborg and Malmö, the four-piece boasts 3 albums under their belt, of which the 2007 cult debut “Exit Decades”, co-released with renowned Colorado, then California based imprint Gold Standard Laboratories (The Mars Volta, The Locust, Chromatics, The Vanishing), was somehow initially mistaken by many for the Interpol’s follow-up to “Turn On The Bright Lights”, still absolutely entertaining the conflicting discussions over some Italian chats, at first judged as a compelling, fresh, tight LP, but once disappointed by the reality and conditioned by the band’s name, as a mere copycat.
Swathed in sparkling blankets of rocking energy and shivering New Wave intensity, the new single “The Other Side of Never”, a spiritual love song swept in bright longing, shows the band’s consummate skill in giving moments of rip-roaring emotive intensity with a distinctive Swedish knack for wistful melodicism, enhanced by a gripping anthemic vocal delivery.
Relentless urgent drum beats, laced with quick thrumming basslines, fuel electrifying layers of icy melancholic synth swells, swaying abrasive riffs and rippling, sharp ringing guitar strains, achingly echoing around deeply emotional and husky vocals, rising into inmost cries of hope.
