WL//WH Track Of The Day: CLOSURE CLUB “Stranger”

WL//WH Track Of The Day CLOSURE CLUB

Portland, OR-based nuanced Dream Pop outfit Closure Club, made of four veteran Gen X indie lifers, Nichole Aramapakul (vocals and keyboards), Chris Koskey (guitars), Bret Van Horn (bass), and Jay Chilcote (drums), explores dark, introspective and reverb-drenched moody Lynchian atmospheres, heightened by twangy guitar warbles and bewitching vocalizations, reminiscent of Mazzy Star and Beach House, in their debut single “Stranger” via fellow indie label/recording studio Clover Sea Records

“Stranger” is a song about playing mind games in a relationship through a lens of insecurity and anger.

The band builds a spectral, surreal, cracked enveloping dreamscape lilted by sneakily pulsing, pinpoint basslines to trigger tight hypnotic drum beats, while the guitar sears, sizzles and subtly bursts out, meandering in a haunted sparkling way around sweet yet wicked female vocals, anxiously and broodingly teasing with piercing and breathy untethered seduction.

Check out the excruciating, droning guitar lead “smoky psych rock dirge” of “Mean” on the flip.
