WL//WH Track Of The Day: CHEVALIER AVANT GARDE “Hide”

Track Of The Day   Chevalier Avant Garde

Chevalier Avant Garde, the Montreal, Québec-based longtime partnership, started in 2011, of Greek/Polish expats Dimitri Giannoulakis and Filip Minuta, returns, after almost three-year hiatus since their 2022 5th album, “Death Drive”, with the four-track “5280” EP, the seventh release of the Brest-based Too Good To Be True label’s 2025 EP series, scheduled for July 18, 2025.

The duo has centered their new songs around fragile memories—memories that are held for a while and that change with time; memories of conversations that go nowhere, apologies that never come, warmth that is conditional and fleeting; and the feelings of abandonment, betrayal, or simple indifference that often accompany such memories.

Blending tip-of-the-tongue ’80s leanings with an elusively captivating melodic flair, Chevalier Avant Garde‘s nuanced Synth-Pop specimen finds a fine balance between cold electronic textures and warm organic emotions, spanning from buoyant danceable corners, and, as in this latest song, titled “Hide”, to plunge into the core melancholy of fleeting recollections through shadowy, introspective, and lapping aural dimensions.

Subtly washed, at times swept away, in the atmospheric whispers of whooshing waves drifting over the shoreline, “Hide” conjures up profoundly poignant, elegiac synth melodies, ceaselessly shaken by the obsessive stabs of mechanical, lightly knocking, rhythmic patterns, woven with tight, jumpy bass lines, to dance lonesome, overflowing with trembling hopeless wistfulness, around sad, ghostly vocals, achingly fading in and out from someone who is hiding from the fire.

Chevalier Avant Garde‘s upcoming EP, “5280”, is scheduled for release, on limited 3 inch CD and Digital, on July 18, 2025, via French independent label Too Good To Be True.
