Cheerless, the North East London-based four-piece shoegaze outfit, formed in 2021, unveils “Listless,” the first in a series of three singles to be released in the forthcoming weeks.

Ride-esque vibrant, shimmering arpeggios smeared with reverb and reflective, melancholic melodies pack a compelling bittersweet emotional depth.

The song is about the memories, places and relationships that quietly shape who we become, and the emotions that can resurface when we’re confronted by them. Like the artwork, it leaves space for your own story. The figures could be anyone, just as the places and people we carry with us often become blurred with time, leaving behind ripples and echoes, and the feelings they stir.

Buffeted by tight, knocking percussions and humming bass pulses, wistful, regretful male vocals, laced with a dull tone and enveloping warmth, gloomily flow around an echoing, sprightly, hypnotic spiral of glintingly chiming guitar melodies that reverberate throughout with an insistent, aching clean-cut resonance, occasionally swelled by hazy, washed-out riffs and a downy cascading chorus, to explore depression, fear, and parental issues
