WL//WH Track Of The Day: CHATHAM RISE “Angus Says (w/ Paula Kelley)”

Track Of The Day Chatham Rise

Since the second decade of the 00s, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based collective Chatham Rise meticulously crafts ecstatic and atmospheric sublime sound textures, toeing the line between late 80s/90s Shoegaze, Psychedelia and Space Rock with strains of British Post-punk/New Wave and Madchester Sound, in an all-pervading concoction of transfixing shimmery swirling distortion, dazzling heavenward escapism, and bittersweet, ethereal harmonies.

We left off at the end of 2023, dealing with Minneapolis‘ space rockers Chatham Rise and their floaty and atmospheric, cultivated blend of expansive Shoegaze and heady Psychedelia, along with the perspective of an imminent third album, “Trillium”, which is finally on its way out via St. Louis, MO-based label Infinite Spin Records.

The 9-track LP is heralded by the single “Angus Says,” featuring the enticing vocals of Paula Kelley from Drop Nineteens.

The surreal song sinuously billows on the aural enticements of pinpoint wobbly bass pulses, shuffling drums, and spellbinding, subtly fluting keyboards, rippling off vibrant, reverb-dusted, glistening guitar flows, sprawling with airy euphoric layers of dreamy, celestial female vocals, to stir a cocooning immersion into a reflective ocean of bracing and serene sun-dappled visions.

Chatham Rise’s third album, “Trillium,” is scheduled to be released, in ltd. Vinyl 12″/CD and digital formats, on July 25, via Infinite Spin Records.

Keep up with Chatham Rise:
