WL//WH Track Of The Day: CATS OF TRANSNISTRIA “Big Sleep”

Track Of The Day Cats of Transnistria

We left the Helsinki-based Cats of Transnistria around the time of their third and last album, “Aligning”, at the end of 2019, we pleasantly find the duo of Tuomas Alatalo (guitars) and Henna Emilia Hietamäki (vocals & keys) after a long, “healthy and rejuvenating” inspiring break and fresh from celebrating 10 years of project’s existence, with a brand new single, “Big Sleep”, via the usual fellow independent label Soliti.

The band have introduced an unedited use of beats and bass lines to provide both airy and droning expansive dimensions to their signature atmospheric and intoxicating infusion of Dream Pop, Post-Rock, Slowcore, Shoegaze, and Dark Wave with Gothic undertones, to create an enveloping ethereal and arcane slow building introspective soundscape, stirred at times by jolts of electric vigour, imbued with a deep emotional heap, that pulls straight at the heart and mind.

Dealing with someone who dreams obsessively about another, but in reality, says few words, “Big Sleep” triggers resonant percussions that relentlessly stumble along with broody humming bass pulses and ringing layers of rippling somber guitar melodies, laced with fuzzed-out abrasive swelling riffs, and swept by dramatic diaphanous synth drifts, to build a dark melancholic aura encapsulated by angelic vocals, longing in lovelorn harmonies of otherworldly beauty.

Keep up with Cats of Transnistria:
