WL//WH Track Of The Day: CAPUT MEDUSAE “Überfan”

Track Of The Day Caput Medusae

Caput Medusae, the brainchild of Germany-based newcomer duo Tina Mar  & Stefan Scott, shares the second foretaste and opening track, “Überfan”, from the long-anticipated debut album, “You Can’t Negotiate With Zombies”, scheduled for release on July 5th, 2024, showcasing further the band’s ever-evolving and multi-faceted experimental approach to orthodox Post-punk and Dark Wave tropes.

“Überfan” deals with the dark psychological enmeshment side of idol worship, seen through the eyes of a spectator, that despite the familiarity of the elements brought in, at the beginning recalls the sorrowful and gloomy cavernous density of She Past Away and then flows into spectral and moody cinematic suggestions, presents more than one reason for intrigue due to the unpredictability of the arrangements and its surreal and uncanny gothic-spanned nature.

The song unfurls repetitive hypnotic chimes of melancholic piano keys, swept by fizzling arcane synth blows, injecting dramatic and poignant soaring spirals, to pulse mechanically through steady urgent drum patterns, gurgling rumbling basslines, obsessive and piercing forlorn guitar riffs, to create an eerie shadowy realm mastered by an unexpected disturbing shift from airless baritone stutters to haunted passionate croons of profound emotional intensity, suspended in both humming and rattling, tragic transcendental limbo, dripping tinkly dry tears.

Caput Medusae‘s upcoming debut album, “You Can’t Negotiate With Zombies”, is due out on July 5th, 2024 in diverse coloured Limited Vinyl 12″ / CD & Cassette formats, already on pre-order via the band’s Bandcamp.
