WL//WH Track Of The Day: BRAINWASH EPIPHANY CENTER “Safe Way”

Track Of The Day   Brainwash Epiphany Center

Stingy with information on his Bandcamp, after more in-depth research on Discogs, Brainwash Epiphany Center is the new solo project of Oakland, California-based Noah Adams, who is bassist, and sometimes co-composer, of the nuanced Post Punk quintet Body Double, led by multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Candace Lazarou, a band that last year also played live over here in Italy not too far from where I live.

“Safe Way”, the first excerpt from the debut, simply titled, “EP-1”, to be released on April 16th via, presumably, his own label OPF (Only Perfect Feelings), delves into minimalistic, pensive, atmospheric Synthetic-laden territories, deeply rooted in the winding framework of a somberly melodic, organic bass in lockstep with rattling drum machines and a dissociated vocal delivery, to soothe and disturb the listener all at the same time.

A plucking, rolling and at last syncopating bassline, ceaselessly meanders along, punctuated by crackly, skipping crispy rhythm patterns, enshrouded in hypnotically, both swelling and subtly buzzing, gauzy arcane pads, as calm, slightly elated, vocals try to convince another that they are in a safe place.
